OPEN STUDIOS 2015

Old-timers, like myself, will recall the great days we experienced during the Open Studios weekends that traditionally took place during the month of October each year. It all started in 2006 but sadly went dormant in 2011, both years inclusive.

In an effort to compensate for the loss, Maria Etheridge created www.art-en-route-cyprus.com which is a website directory where members may join for the minimal amount of €15.00 per year (or part of the year). In return, the artist gets a web page of their own where relevant information is displayed, together with detailed directions to their work-spaces as well as up to eight examples of their work.

art-en-route-cyprus is not an exhibition organiser but it was felt that an Open Studios weekend would be a good idea.

It must be clearly understood that this event does not have any relationship or affiliation with the original Open Studios organisation or organisers.

If you are interested, or if you know anyone who may be interested, in opening the studio / workshop doors to the public during the weekend of the 5th and 6th of September 2015, please contact Maria Etheridge on openstudios.cy@gmail.com for registration and information. The deadline for joining this event is 31st July 2015 as the time frame is extremely limited.

Should this event be as successful as she hopes, it will happen again next year and hopefully in many years to come. Let’s have some fun and show the world what we are capable of by inviting visitors into the places where we manifest our dreams – let’s show people how much we care about what we do.

Here are a few images of the event that took place in 2009, published in SunJet Magazine, the magazine that you could find in the pockets of Cyprus Airways aircraft.

This type of publicity needs to be prepared at least three months in advance, which means that we will miss out on that for 2015. However, if we decide to do this again, time will be on our side.

In addition, funding is at a minimum which means that instead of guides being printed and distributed, the information will be published in the newspapers island-wide and also downloadable from the artenroute website. Awaiting information regarding publication costs at present.
